Dr. Ranjana Sharan Sinha is an eminent poet, author and professor of English (Shri Binzani City college, RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur). She is a well-known voice in Indian Poetry in English with international recognition. Her poems from her collection “Scents and Shadows” are part of the postgraduate university Syllabus, Purnea University. She has received a number of awards for her contribution to poetry and  a commendation from the former President of India, A.P.J.Abdul Kalam for her poem “Mother Nature” contained in her collection ” Spring Zone”. Her recent awards for poetry in 2020-21 include– Order of Shakespeare Medal by Motivational Strips, Citation of the Brightest Honour by Sufi International, Bangalore and Independence Day Honour by Gujarat Sahitya Akademi. She is a widely published poet/ author and her poems, short stories, articles and research papers have been published in highly-acclaimed dailies, magazines, e-zines, archives and journals at national and international levels in print and online including Sahitya Akademi’s Indian Literature. Her poems have found space in more than 40 global anthologies like Inner Child Press, USA, Poet, UK, Silk Route anthology, Egypt, Kali Project, Indie Blu(e) Publishers, USA, Our Poetry Archive, Atunis Galaktika , Sufi anthology , India and many more. Her poems have been translated and into Greek, German, Polish, Spanish, Russian, Albanian, Persian, Nepali and Hindi languages. She is a bilingual poet and writes in Hindi, too. Lives in Nagpur, India with her spouse who is a doctor ( Ophthalmologist).

SINDBAD THE SAILOR
The pages of The Thousand and One Nights, Trigger mystery with imaginations and flights!
On a long shoreline of wonder I stand As Sindbad leaps into life in ancient land!
In the modern world with existential dilemma That unleash skepticism and mental trauma
The mesmeric and hair-raising voyages seven, Thrill us much more than the tales of heaven–
Setting sail from Basra with merchandise precious, The sailor from Baghdad was brave and courageous.
His adventures through seas and surreal realms Unfold like the reels of great supernatural films–
He arrived on shore what appeared to be an island, But oh, surprisingly, everything got out of his hand!
The seeming land was a sleeping gigantic whale With big  trees grown all over that caused travail!
The strange valley of snakes larger than life Which could swallow elephants without strife!
The gorge floor carpeted with diamonds bright; The white orb & the mythical bird sudden in sight!
Captured in a forest by Old Man of the Sea, jet black, An encounter with a marine monster and the attack!
The feats and marvels fill me with awe tremendous: Sindbad: he never ever fell into despair amid dangers!
Fired constantly by wanderlust, the intrepid sailor Endured shipwrecks, cannibalism with wit like a razor!
I hark back to history and a similar Odyssey I find–Sindbad and Odysseus: the two of the same kind!
